RESULTS: Women’s Hockey USA vs Switzerland

The US Women’s Team played their second game of group play this morning against Switzerland. Switzerland had played one game prior, being shut out 5-0 by Canada. The US absolutely dominated Switzerland, defeating them 9-0.

Molly Schaus got the start in net against Switzerland and stopped all 10 shots she faced for the shutout. The US had goals from six different players; Kendall Coyne, Amanda Kessel, and Monique Lamoureux each had 2 goals. Hilary Knight and Alex Carpenter each added a goal and now have a goal in each of their games played. Brianna Decker provided a goal and an assist, notching her first points of the tournament.

It was an outstanding offensive performance that saw 13 US players getting at least one point. Kendall Coyne and Amanda Kessel each had four points after adding two assists to their two goals a piece. In total Switzerland’s Florence Schelling faced 53 shots and made 44 saves for an 0.830 save percentage.

The US is now 2-0-0 in tournament play. Canada (1-0-0) versus Finland (0-1-0) is in progress as of this post to round out today’s Group A games. Sweden (1-0-0) defeated Japan (0-1-0) by a score of 1-0 and Russia (1-0-0) defeated Germany (0-1-0)  by a score of 4-1 in Group B play on Saturday.
