RESULTS: Women’s Hockey USA vs Sweden
After two days off the Women’s US Hockey Team faced Sweden as their Semifinal match-up. It was clear that Team USA would have the upper hand when Alex Carpenter scored at 6:10 of the first period. It was a power play goal, which Sweden had previously given up zero goals on fourteen penalty kills. Sweden would give up one more power play goal in the game. Team USA dominated the Swedes, holding them to just one shot in the first period and nine shots total in the game. The US women chased starting goaltender Valentina Wallner just over 12 minutes into the second period. She had faced 47 of the 70 shots on goal Team USA would have. She made 42 saves leaving her save percentage of 0.894 well below the 0.938 save percentage she had up to the Semifinals.
Team USA saw five more goal scorers before the game was finished. Kacey Bellamy scored her first goal of the tournament, Amanda Kessel her third, and Monique Lamoureux also scored her third. Megan Bozek and Brianna Decker were the points leaders for Team USA, each scoring a goal and adding two assists each.
Jessie Vetter only faced 9 shots from Team Sweden, allowing one goal for a save percentage of 0.889. Team USA has proven they can score, with only Lyndsey Fry and Michelle Picard without points in the tournament. They will face either Canada or Switzerland in the Gold Medal game.
