RESULTS: Bruins in the Olympics Day Six
The Qualification Round saw one Bruin vs Bruin match-up with David Krejci and the Czech Republic facing off against Zdeno Chara and Slovakia. Unfortunately for Chara the Slovakians were eliminated, losing to the Czech’s 3-5. Chara ends tournament play with one point off of an assist. Similar to his role on the Bruins, he averages the most time on ice of any Bruins player in the Olympics at 23:31. He had a high of 27:39 against Russia and a low of 18:01 in his first game, against Team USA. His early tournament exit may be a benefit for the Bruins who could get a more rested Chara back to the lineup when NHL games resume.
David Krejci moves on to the Quarterfinals and will face a potent Team USA. There are no Bruin on Bruin games through the Quarterfinals with Loui Eriksson and Sweden taking on Slovenia, Patrice Bergeron and Canada facing Latvia, and Tuukka Rask with Finland battling Russia. I expect the game between the Olympic hosts and Finland will likely be the biggest grind of the Quarterfinals. Tuukka had a better performance when he started against Canada in Finland’s final Group Round game. But it is unclear if he will be the starter, or if Kari Lehtonen will get the job against Russia.
Stay tuned for more Bruins news throughout the Olympic Playoffs!
