RESULTS: Bruins in the Olympic Quarterfinals
The field is slowly getting trimmed and after the Quarterfinals another Bruin is headed home. David Krejci and the Czech Republic were defeated by Team USA 5-2. Krejci finishes his tournament with one goal and two assists.
There are three Bruins moving on to the Semifinals. Tuukka Rask stood on his head to help Finland defeat Russia 3-1. He faced 38 shots today and only allowed one goal for a 0.974 save percentage. Rask seems poised to lead Finland for the remainder of their games.
Loui Eriksson had himself a monster game for Sweden add his first goal and his first assist of the tournament. Sweden defeated Slovenia easily 5-0. Rask and Eriksson will face each other in the Semifinals for a chance to play for gold and Finland is sure to provide tougher competition than Slovenia.
Finally, Patrice Bergeron and the Canadians were battling Latvia to avoid elimination. Latvia had been one of the biggest surprises of the tournament and Canada carried a tie with them through most of the game. In the final seven minutes of the game Shea Weber scored the go ahead goal and secured Canada’s win 2-1. Jonathan Tavares was injured when he was checked hard into the boards and will miss the rest of the Olympics. Bergeron may have to help fill the void by contributing some of his skills as a natural Center. Canada faces a potent Team USA in the Semifinals as they play for a spot in the Gold Medal game.
