RESULTS: Women’s Hockey USA vs Canada

In a thrilling game that any hockey fan will say embodies the sport, the USA Women’s team fell to Canada 2-3. This was the group round finale in the tournament, team USA finishes with a 2-1-0 record and will have the No. 2 seed in the semi-final round.

Hilary Knight opened up the scoring in the 2nd period and USA held a 1-0 lead going into the 3rd period. But Team Canada came roaring back early in the third, with Meghan Agosta scoring on the power play from an Hayley Wickenheiser pass. Wickenheiser then scored a goal 1:33 later. Agosta scored what would be the game winning goal later in the period to extend Canada’s lead. Team USA’s Anne Schleper made things interesting by scoring with 1:05 left and goaltender Jessie Vetter pulled. The United States ended the game on the power play after Canada was called for too many men, but they were not able to score an equalizer. Team USA’s Jessie Vetter turned away 28 of the 31 shots she faced for a 0.903 save percentage. Canada’s Charline Labonte ended with a 0.926 save percentage stopping 25 of 27 shots.

Team USA is off until the semi-finals start on Monday 2/17. They have a bye through the quarterfinals and their opponent will be determined by those results on Saturday 2/15.
