Psyched for Sochi

With the 2014 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony now come and gone, the games are ready to get underway. There are plenty of events to watch, but everyone knows the Olympic hockey tournaments are where it’s at. There are two women’s games today (2014-02-08) and both are worth watching, but be prepared to get up early.

  • USA vs Finland – 3:00 AM ET
  • Canada vs Switzerland – 8:00 AM ET

USA and Canada are the favorites for the women’s tournament. I found a great write-up about the new format for this year’s games. Stick-tap to @theactivestick for putting that together, worth giving her a follow to get more news throughout the Olympics.

I think an interesting story will be watching how Finland does in the men’s tournament after taking bronze in Vancouver during the 2010 games. I feel they are a dark horse this year with solid goal tending and something to prove. The USA men’s team has a tough but exciting group to play through. Their first game will be February 13th at 7:30 AM ET against Slovakia. It’s going to be hard to root against Chara, but I’ll be proudly wearing my USA hockey jersey.

There are still 10 NHL games to get through today, but there will be much to talk about as the tournaments finally get under way. Stay tuned for more!
